How Much Sleep Does a 5 Month Old Need?

Most 5-month-old babies need:

  • Total sleep: 13–15 hours in 24 hours

  • Wake windows: 2–2.5 hours

Here’s a realistic example of how a day might look:

  • 7:00 am – Wake up + feed
  • 9:00 am – Nap 1 (1–1.5 hours)
  • 12:00 pm – Nap 2 (1–1.5 hours)
  • 3:30 pm – Nap 3 (30–45 minutes)
  • 7:00–7:30 pm – Bedtime

Not every day will follow the clock perfectly — and that’s okay. Focus more on wake windows than exact times.

If naps are short (30–45 minutes), your baby may need slightly shorter wake windows or an earlier bedtime.

Wake Windows at 5 Months

At this age, most babies do best with wake windows between 2 and 2.5 hours.
